Board Members and Trustees

 

 

The Venerable Peter Townley (Member and Chair of Trustees)

Appointed: 1st January 2012

 

Peter has been the Archdeacon of Pontefract since 2008.  He is a member of the Church of England, Leeds Diocesan Board of Education, and was formerly the Chair of the Wakefield Diocesan Board of Education.  Before that, for 28 years, he was a Parish Priest in Greater Manchester and Suffolk where he worked with a number of Church and state schools.

 

John McLeod (Member and Trustee)

Appointed: 1st January 2012

 

John received his secondary education at De Aston Grammar School. It was a good school with an inspirational Headmaster who was good at spotting potential. John was encouraged to continue in education and gained a place at The Queeen's College, Oxford.

 After University, John began a career in Education Administration. He subsequently became Assistant Secretary for the Association of Metropolis Authorities and later appointed as the Deputy Chief Education Officer with Wakefield LA. He was Chief Education Officer for ten years and led a major overhaul and reorganisation of the pattern of provision of education in Wakefield.

He was a Governor of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation for 12 years and its Chairman for 5. He is now retired, but retains a close interest in education matters, and is delighted to be part of Enhance Academy Trust.

 

Richard Noake (Member)

Appointed: 1 September 2016

 

Richard is the Diocesan Director of Education (DDE) for the Leeds Diocese. He is a qualified teacher, having taught RE in secondary schools in Middlesbrough in the 1980s to the mid-90s. He worked for over 20 years at York St John University in teacher education (QTS and PGCE Programmes) and theology and religious studies (BA, MA and research degree supervision). From 2004 he was Head of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies and Director of the Centre for Church School Education. He became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2012. In 2014 he was seconded to work for the new Diocese of Leeds to help shape education policy. In January 2015 he was appointed as Director of Education.

Richard has published research in the diaspora experiences of UK Sikhs and in Public Theology. He is a Visiting Fellow of York St John University. He was Chair of Governors of Ripon Cathedral CE Primary School taking up the post after the school was placed in Special Measures and remaining as Chair until he took up post as DDE in January 2015.

 

Chris Schofield (Trustee)

Appointed by Members : 21st October 2016

 

Chris is a Solicitor and is the Senior Partner of Schofield Sweeney LLP.

Chris is a specialist in Company Law and Corporate Governance, with a particular interest in Academies.

 Chris holds a number of non-executive director positions including JBA Group Limited and Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.

Chris is a Trustee of a number of charities including Leeds Caves and St Gemma's Hospice.

Chris is also a part-time lecturer in Law at Huddersfield University.

 

 Janet Milne (Trustee)

Appointed by Members : 21st October 2016

 

Having graduated from Leeds University Janet has been a teacher for 30+ years, retiring in 2013 as a teacher and Head of Art at Airedale Academy.  Janet currently provides support to the community of Wakefield in her role as Chair of Governors at a local primary school; a member of the PCC; and a Director and Trustee of the Eastmoor Community Project.

Linda Maskill (Trustee)

 Appointed by Members : 21st October 2016

 

Linda has a wide ranging experience in education. She has worked as an Ofsted team inspector, consultant headteacher supporting colleagues for Wakefield LA, and has served as a member of the Wakefield Regional Partnership for Initial Teacher Training Board.

A National Leader of Education, she recently retired from her headteacher post in an 'Outstanding' primary/teaching school.

She continues to support schools and colleagues in an advisory capacity.

Kathy Smith (Trustee)

Appointed by Members:  9th December 2016

 

Kathy is the Company Secretary for Yorkshire Water and has responsibility for GDPR and insurance at Yorkshire Water as part of her role.

 Kathy qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte in Leeds in 1998 and then went on to work for KCOM Group PLC in 2005 as the Head of Internal Audit and Risk. She took on the role of company secretary for KCOM in 2010 and qualified as a Chartered Secretary in 2012. She remained in this role for eight years before moving to Yorkshire Water in August 2018.

 

CHIEF EXECUTIVE - Mark Randall (Trustee/Accountable Officer)

 Appointed: 01 January 2021

 

Mark took up post as Chief Executive Officer in January 2021.  Previously, he held the post of Assistant Director: Education and Inclusion with Calderdale Council. He is an educational professional with a proven track record of school improvement gained through a wide range of senior leadership roles. Mark led two inner city primary schools to an Ofsted judgement of outstanding and has also worked as Executive Principal of four primary schools within a Multi Academy Trust in Leeds. Mark has significant experience working with schools as a school improvement adviser as well as leading inspections on behalf of Ofsted.

Schofield Sweeney has advised on over 180 academy conversions, including academy to academy transfers, multi-academy trust conversions, primary, secondary and faith schools, sponsored academies, special needs schools, alternative provision academies, PFI/BSF schools and free schools

 

Claire Screeton (Trustee)

Appointed: 20 May 2022

 

Claire is a qualified Chartered Accountant with more than 25 years experience working in Yorkshire across a diverse range of private sector companies.
Having qualified as an accountant in 2001 with Ernst & Young, she then spent a number of years doing a variety of accounting roles at two financial services businesses namely GE Capital and Yorkshire based Lowell Group.
Having taken time out during 2012 and 2013 when her two sons were born, she has now spent the last 10 years doing a broad range of part time, interim and contract finance assignments providing her services as Finance Director across a varied range of local businesses.
