 Matt Jones: Education Improvement Professional

Matt has been Headteacher at Featherstone All Saints CofE Academy since 2016 and prior to this was the Deputy Headteacher and then Headteacher of Joseph Locke Primary School in Barnsley.

During his career Matt has also worked in a number of different roles in both Wakefield and Barnsley, ranging from an Assistant Head Teacher, Advanced Skills Teacher for Creativity in the Curriculum (Wakefield LA) to a National Strategies Mathematics Consultant (Barnsley LA).

In his first headship, Matt led Joseph Locke Primary School from Requires Improvement to a Good judgement – a grade that the school had never previously achieved in its history. At the time, Joseph Locke was one of the first schools to be graded as Requires Improvement and as a consequence received the full complement of HMI visits and support. Although rigorous and demanding, this work allowed Matt to both develop rapidly as a leader and learn effectively from working closely alongside a Senior HMI.

Since joining All Saints, the school converted to an academy under the Enhance Academy Trust and the aim is to build on the Good judgement that the school received in 2019.

In 2018, Matt became a Local Leader of Education (LLE).

Matt has worked in, and with, numerous schools that have ranged in size, context and Ofsted category. This experience, coupled with his involvement in school to school support, from an early stage in his career, gives him a useful skillset to enable him to offer support to others in his Education Improvement Professional (EIP) role for the Trust.

Liam Petitt: Trust Mathematics and Teaching Specialist

As Trust Mathematics Teaching & Learning Specialist Liam supports schools with all aspects of maths within the curriculum. Lesson structure, planning, resourcing and pedagogy are core elements where he aims to impact upon the way we teach across the Trust and more importantly the way our children learn.

The teaching of maths has changed dramatically over the last few years; through training sessions, collaborative exemplar lessons and working alongside teachers and other teaching staff Liam aims to provide opportunities for personalised development in both teaching and learning within the classroom, and as leaders within the schools.

Janet Lunn: External Consultant

Janet has had over thirty years’ experience working in primary schools. She has been Headteacher in both a large nursery and infant and a through primary school. Both schools achieved an Outstanding judgment from Ofsted under her leadership and Janet was awarded National Leader of Education status in 2013. Since leaving headship, Janet spent three years working in over 100 schools, reviewing school performance and making recommendations for improvements on behalf of Ofsted. Janet is an independent consultant currently working across two Trusts.

Janet has been heavily involved in initial teacher training, working with groups of students to help them reflect upon and improve their performance. Strengths include early years, parental involvement, curriculum design, developing leaders and school development work. Janet is passionate about improving the life chances of all children, particularly those from deprived backgrounds.
