The Venerable Peter Townley (Member and Chair of Trustees)

Peter has been the Archdeacon of Pontefract since 2008.  He is a member of the Church of England, Leeds' Diocesan Board of Education, and was formerly the Chair of the Wakefield Diocesan Board of Education.  Before that, for 28 years, he was a Parish Priest in Greater Manchester and Suffolk where he worked with a number of Church and state schools.

 

The Rev Canon Ian Wildey (Member)

Appointed: 1st January 2012

Ian served as the Diocesan Director of Education for the former Wakefield Diocese from 2007-1014, supporting some 100 Church of England Schools VC/VA/Academies.  Following the Diocesan restructure in 2014 Ian now works as a schools Adviser, Governance and Admissions, for the Church of England Diocese of Leeds.

 

 

John McLeod (Member and Trustee)

Having worked in the Education Sector since 1978 John's previous appointments include Assistant Education Officer (Further Education) for the London Borough of Haringey and the Assistant Secretary for Education for the Association of Metropolitan Authorities.  John moved to Wakefield in 1989 upon his appointment as Deputy Chief Education Officer, and subsequently as Chief Education Officer (latterly Corporate Director of Education).  After leaving Wakefield Council in 2005 John worked as an independent consultant for a wide variety of clients and is currently Chairman of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation and chairs the Church of England Diocese of Leeds' Strategic Safeguarding Committee.  John provides high level strategic advice and challenge to the Enhance Academy Trust.

 

 

Chris Schofield (Trustee)

Having qualified as a solicitor in 1988 Chris founded the full service law firm of Schofield Sweeney LLP in 1997 and remains the firm's senior partner/Chairman.  Schofield Sweeney has advised on over 180 academy conversions, including academy to academy transfers, multi-academy trust conversions, primary, secondary and faith schools, sponsored academies, special needs schools, alternative provision academies, PFI/BSF schools and free schools.  The Company has offices in Bradford, Leeds and Huddersfield and employs a total workforce of 140.

 

 

John Brady (Trustee)

A local business leader and entrepreneur with a strong risk management background, John has worked in the insurance industry for over 25 years.  He is the founding Director and currently Managing Director of Sovereign Risk Management Limited, trading as Schools Advisory Service Ltd., offering sickness absence insurance and other support services to over 4,000 schools.

 

 

Janet Milne (Trustee)

Having graduated from Leeds University Janet has been a teacher for 30+ years, retiring in 2013 as a teacher and Head of Art at Airedale Academy.  Janet currently provides support to the community of Wakefield in her role as Chair of Governors at a local primary school; a member of the PCC; and a Director and Trustee of the Eastmoor Community Project.

 

 

Linda Maskill (Trustee)

Linda has a wide ranging experience in education.  She has worked as an Ofsted team inspector, consultant headteacher supporting colleagues for Wakefield LA, and has served as a member of the Wakefield Regional Partnership for Initial Teacher Training Board.  A National Leader of Education, she retired form her headteacher post in an 'Outstanding' primary/teaching school earlier this year but continues to support schools and colleagues in an advisory capacity.

Kathy Smith (Trustee)

Kathy is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, qualifying with Deloitte in Leeds in 1998.  In 2005 she joined KCOM (formerly Kingston Communications) as Head of Internal Audit and in 2010 became the Company Secretary.  KCOM is a telecommunications and IT services business, listed on the London Stock Exchange, with turnover of £350 million and approximately 1,750 employees.  KCOM went through a period of significant acquisition around the time that Kathy joined the group and more recently has rebranded the different businesses under one brand and consolidated its internal structures to operate as one group.  Kathy now leads the teams responsible for health, safety and environment, insurance, internal audit, legal matters, standards and compliance, information security, business continuity and fraud detection and she qualified as a Chartered Secretary in 2012 

 

Chris Abbott (Trustee)

Chris is CEO of The Education Alliance, The Wolds Teaching School Alliance and Yorkshire Wolds Teacher Training (SCITT).  Formerly Executive Principal of South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College.  A Headteacher/CEO for over 20 years, Chris is the only secondary NLE in the East Riding of Yorkshire and South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College is the only outstanding high school in the county.  Over the last decade, Chris has been Executive Head in a number of "Special Measures" schools and also schools in crisis, whilst still leading South Hunsley School.  In all cases, the schools have come out of category under Chris' stewardship.  Chris was trained by HMI as an Associate Ofsted Inspector and was also a registered School Improvement Partner.

Kevin Jones (Trustee/Accountable Officer)

Kevin was appointed as the Assistant Chief Education Officer for Wakefield Council in 1994.  Upon leaving this post in 2006 he set up his own education support services company working with local authorities, schools and the Schools Advisory Service until he joined the Trust in 2012.  Kevin has been involved in supporting schools and setting up academies across the country bringing a wealth of expertise and knowledge to Enhance Academy Trust.
